Attempted seduction - Sherriff
is spying and stalking Virginia and tries to blackmail her in order to seduce
her. |
| |
|
Setting is in a field with a lone tree just outside Colonel Donnelly's
Plantation. The Sherriff is tall, lean and mean and his gun is strapped
in front over his crotch. He has a stub of a cigar in his mouth and
he is hiding behind a tree. He jumps out when Virginia is coming down
the lane next to the tree. |
| |
Virginia |
Why Sherriff Obrien, you startled me - popping out behind the tree like
that. |
| |
Sherriff |
I didn't mean to frighten you my dear. Why when you was no bigger
than a beanpole you used like to come and play on my lap and play hide and
seek and minister's wife. |
| |
Virginia |
(In a bitter tone) I don't remember. Is there something you want? |
| |
Sherriff |
Your affectionate smile and kiss would make my day. What's about
a little kiss? |
| |
Virginia |
I am serious and rather in a hurry. |
| |
Sherriff |
Where you rushin off to missy? Why someone as fine as you has to
worry about venturing out unescorted in these troubled woods. |
| |
Virginia |
I didn't realize I had to report my comings and goings to you. (Defiant)
Let me pass! (she tries to move pass him but he jumps in her way blocking
her with his hands on his belt tugging his pants and puffing up his chest) |
| |
Sherriff |
I want to protect you Ginny. That's all. Did you loose your
fine gentel manners when you went up North to get yourself an education? |
| |
Virginia |
I don't see what I learned or failed to learn is any of your concern Sherriff
- now please let me pass (Her tone is more pleading than threatening) |
| |
Sherriff |
You never treated me like this before you went up North. |
| |
Virginia |
(Her voice reflects that she is feeling trapped) That may be true but
I am a woman now and free to go where I please. |
| |
Sherriff |
Your father doesn't seem to think so. |
| |
Virginia |
Did he hire you to follow me around? |
| |
Sherriff |
He asked me to keep you safe when he's gone out on business seein that
your mama's dead - God rest her soul. But following you around that's
my own doin. I can't help it - just one look into those bright blue
eyes, that shining red hair, those blossoming breasts - it just makes me
rise (puts his hand on his gun) to the occassion. If you know what
I mean. |
| |
Virginia |
Oh, I know what you mean alright and I have half a mind to tell my daddy
how you talk dirty when you stop me from my business. |
| |
Sherriff |
Well Ginny... |
| |
Virginia |
I hate that name - I am Miss Virginia Donnelly to you. |
| |
Sherriff |
No need to get snouty and high minded with me missy. So
if you tell me about my harmless flattery and flirten I tell him about
who you hangen round with since you got back. |
| |
Virginia |
You blackmailing me Sherriff (tone is one of coy entrapment) |
| |
Sherriff |
I just want to keep your spotless white reputation in tact. Probably
be best if nobody talks to the Colonel. |
| |
Virginia |
So what do you want ? |
| |
Sherriff |
Isn't it obvious (puts his hands on his belt). Starts enloosening his
belt and is tugging hard to unfasten them. |
| |
Virginia |
(She sees the opportunity to bolt by him and as she is running away and
he is try to put his pants back on and race after her - the effort is pathetic
as he is falling down) . Go screw yourself, I don't care what
you tell papa. |
| |
Sherriff |
(falls on the ground still fumbling with his pants) Bitch! (His
gun barrel gets stuck in the dirt and he sticks in back in his holster without
looking). (Mumbling to himself ) This isn't over yet missy, I'll have
you yet - Bitch. |
