We Say We Don't Kill

by Louise DeBrower 11/10/97
Out of fear, without a tear or a jeer,
We kill self, others, and those we hold dear.

With our dark side in unconscious control,
We do violence to body and soul.

  With Self-pity, self-hate, and denial,
We kill the best in our personal file.

With startvation and diet taking part,
Subtle suicide kills body and heart.

In living sad with our things, possessions,
We kill joy with our money obsession.

In the deception of work as life's goal,
We will kill by denying our own soul.

  In rationalization we're so skilled,
Opportunity's not lost it is killed.

With our clocks, our lying eyes, and glances,
We kill time, and our feelings, and chances.

In our treachery that's spoken as lies,
We kill True Self with cowardly disguise.

  With artificial chosen in duty;
We kill with scorn for truth, honest beauty.

Be keeping closed minds and energy,
We kill with judgement, yet say we are free.

With our absence of presence as fashion,
We will kill with our lack of compassion.

In loving less than our best or fully,
  We kill love indifferently, cruelly.

  WE DO IT ALL!
